Call for Abstracts

The Steering Committee of the 62nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Paediatric Society of New Zealand welcomes abstracts for oral and poster presentations. All abstracts will be blind reviewed.

Preference will be given to abstracts presenting original research. Concluded work and work in progress will be equally considered.

Abstracts may be eligible for the GlaxoSmithKline PSNZ Young Investigator Award [refer eligibility criteria] or the RACP Young Investigators Award [refer eligibility criteria]. Some people may be eligible for both Young Investigators Awards.

The Award paper presentations will be run together in one plenary session and judged by the same judging panel. The medical trainee who achieves the highest score will be awarded the RACP Award. The new investigator who scores the highest will be awarded the GSK Award.

Closing date: Monday 13 September 2010 at 8.00pm

Oral Presentation:

  • Presenters will be allowed 15 minutes: 10 minute presentation, 5 minute discussion
  • Powerpoint is the preferred medium for presentations. Other presentation facilities will be available by arrangement.

Poster Presentation:

  • Poster presentations will be on display for the entire conference
  • You are required to be at your poster for the last 30 minutes of each lunch break throughout the conference.
  • Posters should be AO portrait [1189mm high x 841m wide]. The poster panels will be Velcro receptive and measure 2.3m high x 1m wide
  • There will be an oral plenary poster synopsis session

Please note:
All presenters, other than those specifically sponsored, or those advised by the conference convener as being registration fee exempt, are required to register for the conference for at least the day of their presentation. A condition of submission is that, if accepted, the abstracts may be published in the conference handbook. We retain the right to edit or re-format the description of your presentation for publication purposes. Presenters are responsible to provide all photo-copied notes if required for their presentation.

Submitting Your Abstract:
All information should be submitted electronically through the conference website. On completion of the form below, click on the "Submit Registration" button at the end of this form. You will receive a copy forwarded to the email address you provide.

Abstract Format:
Abstracts must be no more than 300 words.

Your abstract should be titled in the following way:

  • Upper and lower case.
  • Should include the following heading in bold:
    • Background: The study’s objectives [unless given in the title].
    • Methods: A brief statement of the methods used, if pertinent.
    • Results: A summary of the results
    • Conclusion: Reached and significance. It is not satisfactory to state, ‘results will be discussed’ or ‘data will be presented’
  • Abbreviations may be used but must be spelt out in full at the first mention followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.
  • Spacing: Double spacing between each paragraph.
  • Referencing: Harvard or APA referencing may be used.
  • Acknowledgment of supporting institutions may be made at the end of the abstract.
